No wonder affiliate marketing gets a bad name…

I received a few “side messages” about my goals being small and how I was not really an affiliate marketer because half my income is still service based. I was doing a very good job of ignoring those messages until I thought about it a little bit more, no wonder affiliate marketing gets a bad rap, no wonder people are frequently scared off by even the thought of getting involved.

You know what’s really funny? The people that sent me those rotten annoying messages are people I’ve never even heard of. :insert eyeroll here:

The good news is there are plenty of successful marketers who have hearts of gold, who won’t insult you, who won’t send you shady email messages, who won’t sell you some new shiny object about how to make a million dollars every week … and who I actually have heard of, and some I’ve even met in person.

Let’s meet five of my favorite internet marketers now….

Nicole Dean

Lynn Terry

Mark Mason

Rae “Sugarrae” Hoffman-Dolan

David Perdew

These people inspire me, they motivate me, they encourage me, and sometimes, just sometimes, they sit down and have a drink at the bar with me too, or tell me a funny story about their dog when I’m having a rough morning, or remind me that you don’t have to be perfect to be profitable. If you want to hear from real people doing real things online, follow those people, read their blogs, listen to what they say.

In the meantime, with regards to goal setting, set your own goals and set goals that make sense for YOU! If you just started your blog yesterday don’t expect it to make $5,000 in the first month, you’re just setting yourself up for failure out of the gate. Set a reasonable and attainable goal and increase your goals little by little, that’s called real growth.

Getting off my soapbox now.
That’s all I have for today… I need to get back to work!

  1. “you don’t have to be perfect to be profitable” hmmm… where have I heard that before??? 😉

And funny dog stories?? Again, wink wink. 😉

But, seriously, your favorite internet marketers do have one thing in common, and you said it. They have a heart of gold.

You can sniff out the stinkers. It’s not hard. Listen to the people who would “sit down and have a drink at the bar” and share their stories with you.

And listen to the internet marketers that would teach their Mother what they would teach you. Anyone who would take their Mother to NAMS, not once but TWICE, is definitely a trustworthy internet marketer! We’re talking about you, Nicole Dean!

Thank you, Loretta, for this great feature. There will always be ‘snake-oil’ salesmen. You just have to follow your instinct. Good job following yours!

  2. Great post Loretta! I follow most of these people and I agree with you there are plenty of GOOD marketers out there! Another favorite of mine is Rosalind Gardner, and she’s a Canadian like me 🙂

One day I’ll get to NAMS I tell you, I’m dying to go! Can’t wait to sit and have a drink with some good-hearted marketers 😉

  3. How did I miss this new blog? And you’re right, Loretta – there are good and bad in every group. The people you’ve listed here are all high on my list of favorites as well.

And Angela – you really need to come to NAMS. February 10-12, 2012. I’ll save a seat around the fire pit for you!

    • I’m super sneaky that way LOL

February 12th is my youngest son’s birthday so I’m going to skip that one, but I’ll see you all in August!
