The Halloween Project

8.3.1This project has been brewing in my mind for at least two years now. I’ve always done well with the seasonal Halloween content marketing, seeing bigger commissions, more conversions, and higher sales in October than in December in many cases.

Every year I would get distracted and not get my Halloween content ready in time for the big push, so I was using Squidoo a lot because they had great traffic numbers during the season. It worked out well. Well, this year that’s not an option since Squidoo is closing their doors just before the season starts off.

I’ve done Halloween project websites in the past and they did okay. The thing with a seasonal content website it helps to have large quantity and I simply couldn’t produce that quantity all by myself in addition to managing my transcription business. I can churn out loads of content, but my areas of expertise are limited and I was focusing mostly on recipes and quick costume ideas for kids. I knew that needed more if I wanted to get anywhere in the Halloween world, I needed other writers to join me.

So here is a summary of what I would like to do…. (and what I would like to invite you to join me on)

A website devoted to all things Halloween. A combination of original and curated content. Articles, videos, photos. The best of the best. Products, recipes, ideas, planning, decorating, candy, the works. All Halloween, all the time, with content being added and updated all year long.

Multiple authors. Me, you, and Halloween fans everywhere are invited to participate. However, there will be a moderation process and registration will not be completely open door. Likewise, the content will be moderated for quality purposes.

Community effort adds up to better results for everyone. The combined effort of the community towards creating awesome Halloween content is what made the Halloween section on Squidoo so powerful, it’s the same thing that makes sites like Upworthy and Buzzfeed rank so high. With multiple people writing and curating content, getting noticed by people and search engines is easier and faster. There will be a private Facebook group set up for participants to discuss and ideas and stay in touch with other throughout the entire process.

I will gladly manage the technical details – setting up the site (using WordPress) and plugins, setting up and inviting authors, managing updates, taking care of the domain name, the hosting, the Facebook page, the Twitter account, etc….

I’d like to set up an ad share program. I have a team member looking into the technical aspects of that for me this week.

Use your own affiliate links in your content. I don’t want a share of your affiliate commissions, those are yours to keep. This gives you a bit more freedom in what you promote. You can use any combination product links, banner links, and text links within your content.

No games, no fuss, no drama. Seriously, I live in a house with four teenage boys, I don’t need any extra drama in my life. There will be rules, but they will be light. Basically, be kind, don’t spam, don’t publish junk, don’t link to spam or junk, and don’t plagiarize content from other writers.

I’m currently seeking domain names and researching technical details to make the best possible experience for everyone that gets involved.

Who is this project for?

This project has been in my heart for awhile now, so of course it’s something I really want to do. But this project is for content publishers who want a place to put their Halloween themed content without having to manage an entire website all their own. This project is for those that want to dabble with using their own affiliate links inside of content but haven’t set up a website yet. This project is for people who just love Halloween and want to write about it.

Are You Interested?

That’s the overview outline of my idea at the moment. I would like to start off with at least 20 contributing writers, but I’m open to having more than that participating. Please post in the comments below and let me know what you think here, if you would be interested in participating in this project, and of course let me know if you have any questions….

Enjoy this post and want to stay in touch?

About Loretta

  1. What a fun idea Loretta. I’d love to part of it. I could contribute recipes, some decorating ideas and maybe share some Halloween Fiber Crafts and Knitting. I’m sure I’ll have other ideas as we get further along in this.

  2. Moving forward on the project ~ the domain name and social media accounts are set up ~

There’s nothing much there yet, but it will start to shape up over the next few days 😉

  3. I like this. I’d love to bring my Halloween lenses over from Squidoo, mostly costumes, some decorating.
